The house where the writer Osamu Dazai was born, built by his landowner father, with its original interiors intact.
About this place
A memorial museum in Goshogawara, Aomori, in the birthplace of the literary giant Osamu Dazai. It was built in 1907 (Meiji 40) by Dazai's father, Gen'emon Tsushima, a major landowner. The exhibition room in a storehouse holds the cape Dazai wore, his writing tools, handwritten manuscripts, letters, first editions and translations in foreign languages, and the mansion, built of Aomori hiba cypress on grounds of about 680 tsubo, is also impressive as the residence of a wealthy Tohoku merchant.
