Kuroishi's best-known place for autumn colour, with maples over a century old standing along a stream.
About this place
A famous autumn-foliage spot in Minami-Nakano, Kuroishi, Aomori. It has about 130 maple trees over 100 years old, and is said to have begun in 1802 when Yasuchika Tsugaru, lord of the Hirosaki domain, had more than 100 varieties of maple seedlings brought from Kyoto and transplanted. In the grove stands Nakano Shrine, one of the three Tsugaru Fudo shrines. The illumination period is October 24 to November 8, 2026.
