About this place
The Hirosaki Kogin Research Institute in Zaifu-cho, Hirosaki. Tsugaru kogin-zashi developed from the Edo period out of "sashiko" in which farmers reinforced hemp work clothes with cotton thread, and is divided into three types: Higashi Kogin, Nishi Kogin and Mishima Kogin. The Kimura Industrial Building, designed by Kunio Maekawa, which houses the institute, was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 2021. You can have a lecture, tour the workshop and try making a coaster (5 or more people).
