About this place
Oyama Senmaida is a terraced rice field in Oyama, Kamogawa, Chiba Prefecture. Although called Senmaida (a thousand paddies), in fact 375 paddies are lined up on a slope of 3.2 hectares. In 1999 (Heisei 11) it was certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as one of Japan's 100 Terraced Rice Fields, and it is also an area covered by the Agency for Cultural Affairs' project for preserving and utilizing cultural landscapes. In 2022 (Reiwa 4) it was also certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as a "Connecting Terraced Rice Field Heritage - Passing Local Pride to the Future." In 2002 it was also designated a cultural property and place of scenic beauty by Chiba Prefecture.
