About this place
Ojaga-ike is an irrigation reservoir in Togane, Chiba Prefecture. It is a reservoir built in the early Edo period under the leadership of Shimada Ihaku. It is said to have been completed in 1614 (Keicho 19). The pond is about 4.5 km around, with an area of about 250,000 square meters, and is shallow, about 4 m at its deepest point when full. A developed promenade allows walking all the way around, and on weekends it bustles with walkers and anglers. Because the shape of the pond is somewhat like Lake Towada, it has the nickname "the Towada of Boso."
