About this place
A statue of Shakyamuni Buddha in Kamagaya, Chiba Prefecture, built in 1776 in the Edo period. Daikokuya (Fukuda) Bunemon, a wealthy man of Kamagaya-juku, commissioned the casting from Tagawa Shuzen, a caster in Kanda, Edo, to honor his ancestors. In 1972 it became the first cultural property designated by Kamagaya City, and it was also chosen among the 500 Charms of Boso; it is the origin of the station's name, and the nearby shopping street sells Daibutsu Croquettes shaped like the Buddha.
