About this place
A shrine in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, whose formal name is Ofuhi Shrine. The enshrined deity is Amaterasu Omikami, regarded as the ancestral deity of Japan; it is the oldest shrine in the Funabashi area and one of the largest in the city. A lighthouse-shaped lantern tower about 12 m high (built in 1880, Meiji 13) stands in the grounds, designated a Chiba Prefecture Tangible Folk Cultural Property, and it is lit just once a year at the Tomyodai Festival in January. At the annual festival on October 20, kagura and sumo are offered.
