Overview
A castle town in Kanra. The townscape under Oda rule survives, along with its water channels.
About this place
A castle town in Obata, Kanra, ruled by the Oda and Matsudaira families after the Obata clan fell. Around the cherry-tree avenue the look of the Edo period remains, with the daimyo garden Rakuzanen (a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty), the Ogawa Seki irrigation channel, samurai residences and the 14 m wide Nakakoji street. The Ogawa Seki was chosen as one of Japan's 100 Famous Waters, and a warrior procession is held in spring. The cherry blossoms are usually at their best from early to mid-April.
