A lake ringed by old-growth forest. It is deep enough that it never freezes over completely, even in midwinter.
About this place
A freshwater lake in Shikotsuko Onsen, Chitose, Hokkaido, part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park. Surrounded by primeval forest and famous mountains, it shows the water color known as "Shikotsu Blue," prized for its clarity. Parking: 500 spaces, paid. About 50 minutes by bus from JR Chitose Station.
