Overview
A canal made by reclaiming offshore land for loading cargo. After it fell out of use a plan to fill it in was met with a citizens' campaign, and half of it was kept.
About this place
A historic canal in Otaru that symbolizes the city. Stone warehouses and atmospheric buildings line the gently curving waterway. Completed in 1923, it is best seen at dusk.
