A place known for autumn colour at Arima Onsen, a park on the site of a temple abolished in the early Meiji years.
About this place
Zuihoji Park is an urban park in the Arima Onsen area, Kita Ward, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. It is located at the highest part of the hot spring town (elevation 500 m). It is known as a famous spot for autumn leaves. The site of Zuihoji, an Obaku sect temple abolished in the early Meiji period, was developed as a park by the City of Kobe in 1951. From the anecdote that Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who often visited Arima, liked the autumn leaves of Zuihoji, saying things like 'no matter how much you look, you never tire of them,' the autumn leaves here have the alternate names 'Higurashi no Niwa' (Garden to Spend the Day) and 'Kinshu-dani' (Brocade Valley).
