A museum in Kobe, the only one in Japan devoted to carpenters' tools.
About this place
The only museum of carpentry tools in Japan, in Kumochi-cho, Chuo Ward, Kobe. Besides numerous carpentry tools, it displays a model of the bracket sets of the Golden Hall of Toshodaiji rising in the open atrium space and a skeleton tea room (where you can see the delicate work of sukiya construction). It is also distinguished as a museum with temple carpenters. Admission is 500 yen for adults.

For groups of 20 to 50 people, exhibition explanations by museum staff or volunteer guides are available. If you wish, please print and fill out the group use application form and submit it by fax (078-241-4713). The group use application form can be downloaded from the website. The tour takes 90 minutes. Because it is popular, it is often almost fully booked for about 2 months ahead, so please apply as early as possible.
