About this place
An island in Horyu-cho, Suzu, regarded as a symbol of Noto. A large rock 28 m high, it is also called Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) for its appearance of a warship coming toward you. Kobo Daishi is said to have discovered it when crossing from Sado to Noto, and the name derives from his saying 'I found it'. Because of the earthquake, the southeastern half collapsed and its appearance has changed greatly.
