About this place
One of Kanazawa's three teahouse districts in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, alongside Kazuemachi Chaya-gai and Higashi Chaya-gai. Nishi no Kuruwa, one of the pleasure quarters officially licensed by the Kaga domain in 1820, is the present Nishi Chaya-gai, with a row of two-story teahouse-style houses with beautiful lattice fronts. At the back, the Nishi Chaya Museum recreates the structure on the site of the teahouse Yoshimairo, where the writer Shimada Seijiro spent time.
