About this place
The Ataka Barrier is a checkpoint said to have been set up by the military governor, the Togashi clan, at Ataka on the Sea of Japan side of Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is also famous from the kabuki play Kanjincho, based on the episode at Nyoi no Watashi, in which Minamoto no Yoshitsune, heading with Musashibo Benkei and others for Hiraizumi, the base of the Oshu Fujiwara, passes by, and Benkei reads out a false subscription list; although the barrier keeper Togashi Yasuie sees through it and realizes it is Yoshitsune, out of sympathy he lets them pass.
