Overview
A hot spring along the Toyosawa River in Hanamaki. A self-catering cure wing survives, and the riverside open-air bath is its mainstay.
About this place
Osawa Onsen is a hot spring in the Hanamaki Onsen area of Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture (the former Mutsu Province, and Rikuchu Province from the Meiji era). There is a single inn, Osawa Onsen. Though a single inn, it is large, made up of the inn section Sansuikaku, Kikusuikan, a thatched-roof building that is now a gallery, and the jisui-bu (self-catering section), a place for long-stay hot spring cures. At the entrance of the single inn is a signboard in the calligraphy of Aida Mitsuo. There are five baths, and Osawa no Yu, the mixed-bathing open-air bath along the Toyosawa River in the self-catering section, is famous.
