About this place
The ruins of the castle of the Sukumo Yamauchi clan in Sukumo, Kochi Prefecture, where Ishizuchi Shrine now stands. In 1601 (Keicho 6), Ando Yoshiuji, nephew of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, was allowed to take the Yamauchi surname and ruled the 6,000-koku Sukumo domain, making it his residence. Also called Matsuda Castle, it was abandoned under the one-castle-per-province order of the Genna era.
