Overview
Miyagi is among Japan's top growers of seri, water dropwort. About 80 per cent comes from Natori, its stems and roots notably thick. The root goes into the pot too.
About this place
Seri nabe is a hot pot dish made with Sendai seri (Japanese parsley), a specialty product of Miyagi Prefecture. Seri has been produced in Miyagi Prefecture since the Edo period, and its output is the largest in Japan. Seri nabe made with it is said to have begun to be served at izakaya and other places in Sendai from around 2004. It spread in the course of regional recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Seri is generally known as one of the seven herbs of spring, but locally it is often served in winter.
