About this place
Fukuurajima is one of the islands of the Matsushima archipelago in Miyagi Prefecture. It is connected to the opposite shore by the pedestrian Fukuura Bridge. This entry also describes the bridge. It lies at the back of Matsushima Bay, close to Matsushima Kaigan and Godaido. It is an island about 330 m in diameter, with an area of about 6 hectares. A bridge spans from the northwest of the island to the mainland. The north side is deeply indented, forming a U shape. Inside the island, the slope at the back of the bay is a multi-purpose plaza with flower beds and more.
