About this place

Aoshima is a bridged island near the southeast coast of the Aoshima area of Miyazaki, Miyazaki Prefecture. The island measures 860 m in circumference, about 4.4 hectares (ha) in area and about 6 meters (m) in height. At low tide it is connected to land, but at high tide it becomes an island, and is becoming a tombolo. The opposite shore is called Aoshima Coast and, including Aoshima Swimming Beach and others, forms a major tourist area. Aoshima and Aoshima Coast are linked by the Yayoi Bridge. It is the site of Aoshima Shrine.
