Overview
A grand shrine in Miyazaki City honouring Emperor Jimmu, set in a wide wood.
About this place
A shrine enshrining Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan, said to have been founded by his grandson Takeiwatatsu no Mikoto. His parents, Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto and Tamayori-hime no Mikoto, are also enshrined, and visitors come to pray for family safety, marital harmony, safe childbirth and children, as well as victory and exam success. The present shrine buildings were erected in 1907 (Meiji 40) using Sano cedar, a fine timber of Hyuga, and the Miyazaki Jingu Grand Festival, known by the nickname Jimmu-sama, is held here.
