About this place
A large cave in Takachiho, Miyazaki Prefecture, about 10 minutes on foot along the Iwato River from the Nishi Hongu of Amano Iwato Shrine. The setting of Japanese mythology, it is said to be where the eight million gods consulted on how to bring back the light, and is also called Gyobo-ga-iwaya. Countless stones piled up by people who come to pray add to the mysterious atmosphere in the cave.
