About this place
A shrine in Takachiho, Miyazaki Prefecture. The setting of the myth recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, it enshrines Ama-no-Iwato, where Amaterasu Omikami hid. There are the Nishi Hongu and Higashi Hongu on both banks of the Iwato River, and the sacred object Ama-no-Iwato, at the Nishi Hongu, can be viewed from the worship place with a priest's guidance 15 times a day. Amano Yasugawara is about 10 minutes on foot along the Iwato River from the Nishi Hongu.
