About this place
Obi in Nichinan, southern Miyazaki Prefecture, prospered for about 280 years from 1588 as the castle town of the Ito clan's 51,000 koku domain. Its townscape is called the Little Kyoto of Kyushu, and it was selected in 1977 as the first Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in the Kyushu region. Around the Otemon gate of Obi Castle are facilities such as Yoshokan, the Obi Castle History Museum, the Komura Jutaro Memorial Hall and the former domain school Shintokudo.
