Overview
A street in Shimabara where carp swim in channels fed by springs.
About this place
A townscape in the Shinmachi area of Shimabara where nishikigoi (koi) swim in clear streams. Shinmachi has abundant spring water, and water comes out when you dig 50 centimeters into the ground. The neighborhood association led an effort to release koi in order to preserve the spring water for future generations and make use of it for tourism. Red-and-white, three-color, golden and other koi swim there.
