About this place
Kunenan is a sukiya-style residence and Japanese garden in the Nihiyama district, Mato, Kanzaki-cho, Kanzaki, Saga Prefecture. In the mid-Meiji period, the businessmen Bun'emon Itami and his son Yataro Itami, natives of Saga Prefecture, acquired the land of Fudoin, a subtemple (tacchu) of the 36 temples of Nihiyama Gokoku-ji, and the site of the sub-temple Jizoin, and established the residence and garden; this was the beginning of present-day 'Kunenan.'
