Overview
A shore in Makinohara, shallow and calm.
About this place
Shizunami Coast is a coast on Suruga Bay, east of the mouth of the Katsumata River in Makinohara, Shizuoka Prefecture. Because it is shallow with calm waves, in summer it bustles with many bathers, mainly families, from inside and outside the prefecture. The surf spots scattered along it are also famous, and surfers come all year round. National tournaments are also held. The Shizunami Seawater Fireworks Festival is held on the last Friday of July every year. In June 1989 (Heisei 1) the first Statue of Liberty (an environmental beautification awareness tower) was installed.
