About this place
A lighthouse in Omaezaki City, Shizuoka Prefecture, standing at the tip of a cape jutting into the Pacific Ocean at the southernmost point of the Japanese mainland. It was first lit in 1874 (Meiji 7) and is designated a National Important Cultural Property. It is said to be one of 16 lighthouses in Japan that can be entered and climbed to the top; the horizon spreads out at the top of the spiral staircase, and the lighthouse is illuminated every night.
