Overview
A wooden bridge 897.4 metres long over the Oi River in Shimada, held to be the longest wooden footbridge in the world.
About this place
A bridge over the Oi River, more than 897 m long, certified by Guinness World Records as the world's longest wooden footbridge. Its length makes it popular as a blessing spot for yaku-nashi (no misfortune) through wordplay. It began as an agricultural bridge built when the tea plantations of the Makinohara Plateau were cleared, and beyond it are a Bell of Longevity and walking paths, with a teahouse at the foot of the bridge.
