Overview
A monument in Hamamatsu on the site of the 1573 battle in which Tokugawa Ieyasu was defeated by Takeda Shingen.
About this place
A monument to an old battlefield in Chuo Ward, Hamamatsu. It marks the site of the fierce battle in 1572 where the young Tokugawa Ieyasu challenged Takeda Shingen and was heavily defeated, considered the greatest defeat of Ieyasu's life. Around the site and elsewhere in Hamamatsu there are Japanese confectionery shops selling the famed sweet "azuki mochi," named after a legend that the fleeing Ieyasu ate rice cakes at a teahouse as he ran.
