About this place
Amedaki is a waterfall in Kokufu, Tottori, Tottori Prefecture. It is selected for Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. It lies at an elevation of 500 m on the Amedaki River, a tributary of the Fukuro River, itself a tributary of the Sendai River, whose source is Mt. Ogi-no-sen. It is in a place covered with primeval forest of horse chestnut, zelkova and beech, and the surroundings are called Amedaki Gorge. A waterfall in which the water gathered from the Kawaidani Plateau falls over basalt rock, it is 40 meters high and a little over 3 meters wide. Since ancient times it has been known as a sacred site of Shugendo and was a place of ascetic practice.
