About this place
Ojika Gorge is a gorge in Misasa, Tohaku District, Tottori Prefecture, and a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty. It is considered a famous spot for fresh greenery and autumn leaves. It is a mountain stream of about 4.3 kilometers from the Kamikura district in the upper reaches of the Ojika River, a tributary of the Mitoku River, to Nakatsu Dam. The Ojika River flows between Mt. Mitoku and Mt. Mikuni in the Chugoku Mountains. In the area around Ojika Gorge, the granite layer, the old basement stratum of the Chugoku Mountains, sank to the seabed and formed a conglomerate layer, and after this was uplifted, lava broke through the strata, erupted and piled up on top of the conglomerate layer.
