About this place
Akiyoshido is a limestone cave 100 - 200 m underground in the Akiyoshidai plateau in eastern Mine, Yamaguchi Prefecture, open to the public with a tourist route of about 1 km. It is the largest limestone cave in Japan. An underground river flows for about 1 km from Kotogafuchi at the back of the cave to the cave mouth. As a result of diving surveys by cave explorers around 1990 from Kotogafuchi toward the back, it was found to connect to Kuzugaana, about 2.5 km to the east, and the total length reached 8,850 m.
