About this place
Tsunoshima is an island in the Sea of Japan (Hibiki-nada) at Oaza Tsunoshima, Hohoku-cho, Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is the northwest tip of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is included in Kita-Nagato Coast Quasi-National Park. Population 726 (2015 census).
It was called Tsunoshima (Horn Island) from the way the two capes of Makizaki and Yumezaki jut out like the horns of an ox. The northwest and southeast sides of the island are arc-shaped small bays. It was separated from Honshu by the Amagaseto Strait, but in 2000 the 1,780-meter Tsunoshima Ohashi Bridge was completed. It is outstandingly long for a general road bridge built to an outlying island.
