Overview
A shore in Kita-Nagato Kaigan Quasi-National Park. About 15 million years ago magma entered sand and mud strata, and its heat made the banded rock.
About this place
Susa Hornfels is a metamorphic rock landform on Mt. Koyama in Susa, Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 2007 (Heisei 19) it was selected among the 'Top 100 Geological Sites of Japan' chosen by the Geological Society of Japan and others. Susa Hornfels refers to the entire landform where Koyama gabbro and other rocks are exposed as a stock-like rock body with a long diameter of 3 km, on Mt. Koyama (elevation 532.8 m), rising north of Susa, Hagi, and the whole area at its foot.
