About this place
A shrine in Hofu. One of Japan's three great Tenjin shrines along with Dazaifu Tenmangu (Fukuoka) and Kitano Tenmangu (Kyoto), it is said to have been the first in the country founded to enshrine Sugawara no Michizane, god of learning. Many worshippers come to pray for passing exams and academic success, and there are many events, including the Gojinko Festival (Hadakabo Festival) in November and the Plum Festival.
