About this place
A temple in the Isawa, Katsunuma and Nishizawa Gorge area of Yamanashi Prefecture. A prefectural natural monument, an Edo higan cherry spreads across the grounds as if covering them; it is said to have been planted by Shinra Saburo Yoshimitsu (ancestor of the Kai Genji), and is called Shinra Zakura. It once fell in a typhoon in Showa 22, and is said to be a tree grown from the root of the one that remained. The cherry blossoms are at their best in mid-April.
