An 1,818-metre mountain in Hokuto, with grass fields along its ridge.
About this place
Yokooyama is a mountain on the border between Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture (the former Sutama Town, Kitakoma District), and Kawakami Village, Minamisaku District, Nagano Prefecture, in the western end of the Chichibu Mountains. Its elevation is 1,818 m. It is one of the 100 Famous Mountains of Yamanashi. The summit stretches long east to west (the ridge is long sideways). There is the Kuromori Mineral Spring at the south foot. To the northwest is Chatreze Ski Resort Yatsugatake, beyond which lies the Nobeyama Plateau. It is the watershed between the Fuji River (flowing into the Pacific) and the Chikuma River (becoming the Shinano River and flowing into the Sea of Japan). In early summer, until around mid-June, Rhododendron molle azaleas bloom.
