Overview
A 1,953-metre mountain in Koshu, held to be where the Tama River's first drop rises.
About this place
Kasatoriyama is a mountain with an elevation of 1,953 m on the border between Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, and Koshu, Yamanashi Prefecture, on the main ridge of the Okuchichibu massif. It is within Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park. It is selected as one of the 100 Famous Mountains of Yamanashi. The forest on the southern slope of the summit is the source of the Tama River and is a water-source conservation forest managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Waterworks (Tokyo Water Source Forest). A little below the summit on the south side is a place called Mizuhi (meaning "the end of the stream"), where the first drop of the Tama River seeps out, with a sign reading "138 km to Tokyo Bay."
