Overview
A 1,394-metre mountain in Nanbu, with Mount Fuji from the summit.
About this place
Shinoisan is a mountain in Nanbu, Minamikoma District, Yamanashi Prefecture. Its elevation is 1,394.4 m. The mountain's name is said to come from Oshikochi no Mitsune, of Junior Fourth Rank, who was posted long ago as an official of Koshu, climbing it and giving it the name Shiisan (Fourth Rank Mountain). It may also mean a mountain at the boundary of four villages. It is by no means a high mountain, but because its height above the foot exceeds 1,000 m it looks quite large and impressive. It has a stately form and has been revered since ancient times as a sacred body. The only trail starts from Odo Bridge, further in from Okuyama Onsen to the south.
