About this place
Taka-Dokkyo is a mountain on the border between Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Nanbu, Minamikoma District, Yamanashi Prefecture. It is also written Taka-Dokkyo. Its elevation is 1,134 meters. It is one of the 100 Famous Mountains of Yamanashi. It forms a part of the ridgeline that serves as the border of Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures, lying between the Okitsu River in eastern Shizuoka and the water system of the Fuji River flowing south from Yamanashi Prefecture. It is also said that Dokkyo may mean a projection (tokki, dokke). The trail has many steep slopes and difficult sections, and is said to be rewarding to climb for its not very high elevation.
