About this place
Genjirodake is a mountain in Koshu, Yamanashi Prefecture. Its elevation is 1,476.6 meters. It is one of the Yamanashi 100 Famous Mountains. Across the Nikkawa River from Daibosatsu-rei, there is the Daibosatsu mountain range (Koganezawa range) to the east and the Nikkawa ridge to the west, and this is the central mountain of that ridge. As for the origin of the name, there is a legend that Iwatake Genjiro, a retainer of Nakahara Kanetoo, the foster father of Kiso Yoshinaka, was cornered by the troops of Minamoto no Yoritomo and killed himself atop a large rock called Masuiwa on the southwest side of the summit.
