About this place
The Suyamaguchi Trail, which corresponds to the present Gotemba-guchi Trail, a constituent asset of the Mt. Fuji World Heritage (registered June Heisei 25). It runs from Suyama Sengen Shrine in present-day Susono, on the southeast foot of Mt. Fuji, to the southeastern part of the summit. It suffered devastating damage in the Hoei eruption of 1707 and was fully restored in 1780. The Gotemba-guchi Trail was opened in 1883, and in 1912 part of it was absorbed into an army training ground, and pilgrimage activity declined.
