About this place
The Omiya and Murayama-guchi Trail, which corresponds to the present Fujinomiya-guchi Trail, a constituent asset of the Mt. Fuji World Cultural Heritage (registered June Heisei 25). The starting point is Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha on the southwest foot of Mt. Fuji, and it passes through Murayama Sengen Shrine (Kohoji) to the south side of the summit. It is said to have begun with the activity of the 12th-century ascetic monk Matsudai Shonin, and by the early 14th century organized climbs by mountain ascetics were taking place.
