About this place
Uchikoza is a theater (shibai goya) at 2102 Uchiko, Uchiko-cho, Kita District, Ehime Prefecture. It is an Important Cultural Property and is said to be the only traditional theater remaining in Ehime Prefecture. Built in 1916 (Taisho 5) by volunteers of Uchiko-cho and used as a movie theater for a time after the war, its first restoration project was completed in 1985 (Showa 60) and its second-phase improvement project was completed in October 1995 (Heisei 7). It is near the Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings "Yokaichi Gokoku."
