About this place
Goshikinuma is a crater lake on the slope of Mount Issaikyo in the Azuma mountain range, in Fukushima, Fukushima Prefecture. Because of its cobalt-blue beauty that seems to swallow you up, it is also called the "Witch's Eye" or the "Eye of Azuma." The lake fills a crater about 300 m in diameter and changes color from moment to moment depending on the sunlight. To reach Goshikinuma, walk about 80 minutes from Jododaira on the Bandai-Azuma Skyline, which can be reached by car; it can be viewed from the summit of Mount Issaikyo. There is no path leading directly down to the lakeshore from the summit, but it is possible to descend from the ridge trail toward Mount Ieigata.
