Overview
A miniature circuit that lets you walk the Shikoku pilgrimage within the island.
About this place
The Shodoshima 88 Temples is a local Shikoku (pilgrimage of 88 sacred sites) on Shodoshima, an island in the Seto Inland Sea. Together with the Chita Shikoku pilgrimage in Aichi Prefecture and the Sasaguri Shikoku 88 Temples in Kyushu, it is regarded as one of the 'Three Great Shin-Shikoku Pilgrimages of Japan'. As a training ground where remote-area ascetic practice, the origin of the henro pilgrimage, flourished, it is a sacred site with a long pilgrimage history centred on mountain ascetics.
