Overview
A bridge 1,960 metres long crosses the sea. The island carries a Ryukyuan version of the Adam and Eve legend.
About this place
Kouri Island is an island belonging to Nakijin Village, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture, located north of Yagaji Island in northern Okinawa Main Island. Population 346, 163 households. Area 3.17 square kilometres. It is a circular plateau with a circumference of 7.9 kilometres and a highest point of 107 metres, surrounded by a lagoon and the open sea. It has three settlements, Murauchi, Uehara and Shimohara, overseen by a single district head.
