About this place
Takeo Onsen is a hot spring town in Takeo, Saga Prefecture (former Hizen Province). Lotions made using the hot spring water are also produced. The Takeo Onsen Romon (tower gate) is designated an Important Cultural Property together with the Shinkan (new building), and is the symbol of the hot spring town. Both were designed by Tatsuno Kingo, and the completion celebration was held on April 12, 1914 (Taisho 3). Through the gate are the Takeo Onsen Shinkan, which is a museum, and the public baths and private baths described below. The Shinkan was a public bath until 1973 (Showa 48).
