About this place
Kawazu Nanadaru is the collective name for seven waterfalls within about 1.5 km along the Kawazu River in Kawazu-cho, Kamo District, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is the main tourist spot of Kawazu-cho and is designated a geosite of the Izu Peninsula Geopark. The Nanadaru were formed about 25,000 years ago when a lava flow from "Noborio-minami Volcano," one of the Izu Eastern Volcanic Group, flowed into the valley, and columnar joints, formed when the thick lava solidified and contracted, can be seen at six of the seven falls, all except "Ebitaru."
